About us

Utheemu United (UU) is an NGO founded on October 8, 2013, with the aim of enhancing the community of HA. Utheem, a historically significant island and the birthplace of National Hero Mohamed Thakurufaanu. The formation of our NGO was motivated by a vision to involve residents, especially those residing elsewhere, in initiatives aimed at the island’s improvement.

Since our establishment, we have been actively involved in a variety of community-driven endeavors. These include the implementation of the Green Project, wherein we planted 1,000 coconut palm trees, organizing football tournaments, hosting Children’s Festivals, orchestrating Eid celebrations, commemorating National Day, and undertaking beach cleaning efforts.

In addition to our own initiatives, we collaborate with other organizations, notably the Utheem Council, whenever our participation is sought. Furthermore, we readily share our facilities and equipment with other groups in Utheemu when the need arises.

A significant annual highlight for us is the observance of Eid-ul-Adha, marked by communal breakfast gatherings, the distribution of goat meat to households, an evening children’s festival, and a night-time magic show.
